Southwest Washington Congressman Brian Baird on Wednesday helped reform-minded groups launch a campaign to make the U.S. House post legislation on the Internet at least 72 hours before a vote.

“It would involve the public in a way Jefferson and Adams and the framers couldn’t have conceived of but would have approved,” said Baird, a Vancouver Democrat.

Baird and three organizations, including the newly formed ReadtheBill.org, announced the “72 Online” campaign in Washington, D.C.

ReadtheBill.org founder Rafael DeGennaro said he hoped 1,000 organizations of all kinds will endorse the proposal by July 4.
